Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or when you collect your vehicle. This document outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, charges, and your responsibilities related to the rental. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To rent a vehicle from Car Hire in Ayrshire, you must be at least 21 years old, though age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type, with extra fees applicable for drivers under 25. A valid driving licence suitable for the vehicle category is required, held for the duration specified in your Rental Agreement. You must also present valid identification and proof of your current address, along with payment details and a security deposit. Additional criteria may be outlined in the Rental Agreement.
3. Reservations and Payments
- Reservations can be made via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Ayrshire office. A deposit may be necessary to finalize your booking. Full payment along with a security deposit is generally required at the time of vehicle pickup. Pricing is listed in British Pounds (£) and includes VAT where relevant. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment platforms.
4. Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of collection, a thorough inspection of the vehicle is required. Any pre-existing damage must be reported immediately, and a vehicle condition report will be created and signed by both parties. The vehicle should be returned in the same condition as received, accounting for reasonable wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged as necessary. Please return the vehicle with the same fuel level as at the start of the rental; refueling charges will apply if the fuel level is lower. Late returns may incur additional fees, so please contact us without delay if you expect to return the vehicle late. You are responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges incurred during your rental, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All car rentals in Ayrshire include basic third-party insurance. You will find comprehensive coverage details and excess amounts specified in your Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to lower your potential financial liability. It is prudent to review these options thoroughly. You will be liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess amount, unless you opt for additional insurance. Any damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, irrespective of your insurance coverage.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ depending on your booking type and the notice period provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of Your Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities or purposes. Engaging in racing, rallying, off-roading, or other risky behaviors is prohibited. Transporting hazardous materials or allowing unauthorized individuals to drive is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. The vehicle must be used only for its intended purpose, adhering to passenger and weight limits, and remaining within the designated geographical boundaries without prior approval.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
8. Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by law in Scotland, Car Hire Ayrshire will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims is capped at the amount paid for the rental in the prior 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence, or for instances of fraud.
9. Local Legal Framework
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be resolved exclusively in the courts of England and Wales.
10. Modifications to Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect as soon as they are posted on our website. Continued use of our services indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.
